At Access Tech, we’re all about helping clients thrive in their day-today operations, but we also believe it is just as important to give back to our community. Recently, our core team members, Sarah Vhay – Customer Support Specialist; Heather Adams – Operations Manager; Trey Lackey– President; and Annie Trevisan — Operations and Marketing Coordinator, took a break from their usual tech-driven routines to volunteer at the Oregon Food Bank.
When it comes to MSP work, it’s all about teamwork, communication, and solving problems efficiently. While we were mainly handling cucumbers and pears, the food bank requires the same principles to work well. The team worked hairnet-to-hairnet with other volunteers, sorting through rotting fruit, bagging quickly, and depositing the finished bags into a large container. The team fell into an unspoken cadence where three people bagged while the other ran the final product to their large shipping container. Just like at work, it took coordination and collaboration to ensure the operation ran smoothly – much like managing IT projects.
For Sarah, it was about comradery and connection with others, “Working from home can be isolating. Volunteering at OFB was a fun way to connect with my coworkers and our community.”
For Trey, our ever-energetic leader, it was the best day ever: “I love the food bank. We talked and worked and talked about work then a lady sitting behind me said that she could see my crack when I leaned forward. I am perfect for IT. Hairnets and butt cracks. Best day ever.”
Beyond the bags of pears, volunteering at the Oregon Food Bank reminded us how crucial it is to step out of the daily grind and focus on the bigger picture. Giving back isn’t just about doing good for others—it strengthens our ability to work together as a team and refocus on what really matters.
Much like in MSP work, where solving problems for clients involves collaboration and communication, community service helps us stay grounded, build relationships, and improve how we work together. It’s a reminder that there’s always a larger goal worth striving for, both in business and in life.
